Closer still, at the heart of our idyllic campus sits Airthrey Loch, overlooked by its 18th century namesake, Airthrey Castle – two picture-perfect additions to the landscape and yours to enjoy when you book an event, meeting or short break with us. The loch and its banks are part of the original castle estate, and home to an abundance of wildlife. You’ll see swans and ducks enjoying a morning swim as you make your way to your meeting, and you won’t have to look too hard to spot a squirrel on campus either.
This unique location is only two miles from the centre of Stirling, a city that has a reputation as one of the most attractive places to live in the UK and which offers an authentic glimpse into Scotland’s rich and bloodied history. It is beautifully positioned at the point where the Highlands meet the Lowlands, and is only 40 minutes from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, with direct connections via road and rail.
For fitness fans and sporting enthusiasts, you will be pleased to learn that as Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence our campus provides unrivalled facilities for group hire and private use. These include a sports hall, tennis and squash courts, gym cycling studio and an Olympic sized swimming pool, which serves as the training home for many of Scotland’s performance swimmers. Outdoors, you will find artificial pitches, an athletics track, a 9 hole golf course and multi-use games area.
Truly setting the on-campus facilities at Stirling apart from the crowd, the Macrobert Arts Centre brings a non-stop schedule of movies, live theatre and much more right to your doorstep.
The Macrobert is home to a modern 135-seat cinema showing everything from the latest blockbusters to independent gems and cult classics all year round. You can also enjoy some of the hundreds of live shows that take place in the venue’s state-of-the-art auditorium – from stand-up comedy to gripping drama and boundary-pushing dance.
The University of Stirling has always offered an outstanding student experience, and our existing facilities were awarded five stars in the 2018 QS World University Rankings. But we’re also building for the future – which is why work is already underway on two major renovation projects that will see a combined £41.7 million invested in our central campus hub and sports facilities between now and academic year 2020/2021.
